ping: google.com: Temporary failure in name resolution This problem is what's happing when trying to ping a domain instead of a IP, at this moment in the resolve.conf it has the 127.0.0.57 IP, tried adding this. nameserver 8.8.8.8
May 07, 2008 · Hi, I have a weird problem. when ever I do ping command like for example ping unix.comI get the following message: # ping unix.com ping: unknown host unix.com but when I use host the computer is able to know the host. # host unix.com unix.com has address 81.17.242.186 unix.com mail is Unknown Host: An unknown host is an error message that generates when a destination computer or host server name cannot be resolved. I got IPv6 working in windows and solaris9.I was able to ping between these platforms. I can even ping a linux machine from windows n solaris.I can even SSH -6 from solaris(SSH1) machine to linux(SSH2) but not vice-versa. niether i can ping from linux to windows n solaris. I get this mesage I can do host and it resolves to what I expect. But ping always returns unknown host. [root@www network-scripts]# date Mon Feb 23 15:19:06 CST 2015 [root@www network-scripts]# host infradc2012.infrasupport.local infradc2012.infrasupport.local has address 10.10.10.11 [root@www network-scripts]# ping infradc2012.infrasupport.local

This is a company DNS server that is given with DHCP, it works well for other people. I've also tried Google's 8.8.4.4 and 205.171.3.65 (which I found from GRC's DNS Benchmark to be the fastest).
